Strip #28 Ear Communicator

This strip was inspired by a very proud individual I saw in a store with his Bluetooth ear piece on. It kind of stuck out from his ear and it had a very bright blue flashing light. I have never seen a person that looked so ridiculous, look so proud of himself. It amazes me how individuals feel elevated by their technological devices. Hey I love my iPod but do I need to carry it around in full view just to be admired, come'on! The cell ear piece and Blackberry must be the worst of the bunch. At least with the Blackberry it can be tucked away in your pocket!

My only regret is that I did not produce this strip earlier, at the height of the ear piece fad. I had it in my mind for a few years but decided to put it to ink before it was too late.

Mothership is back

Sorry for the delay, been busy and lazy. Now due to the writers strike I can take advantage of the lack of good quality entertainment on TV and work on the strip. Mothership will move away from being a continuous story line, although a couple of strips will tie together. That way it will be more marketable to the newspapers. I have sketched a couple of strips already featuring Manga Mirror and Mancoons, which should provide some interesting reoccurring characters. Stay tuned...

Mothership Comics new stories

As time goes on, some of Mothership's fans write in to suggest new plot lines. A space setting almost opens up any type of possibility. As I develop Mothership comics, sometimes very slowly,
I try to explore new territory but I keep coming back to some of may favorite "space" stories. Star Trek explored some great subject matter. For example I loved the story where Kirk found the home of the ancient Greek gods and meets Apollo. Excuse me if I forget the Star Trek episode titles. Who can forget that giant planet eater that was destroyed only by overloading an already crippled star ship. And of course the entire "Mirror, Mirror" saga that is covered in every generation of Star Trek....I really loved the Enterprise version explaining the Earth empire's superiority over the other races. In some of the future Mothership comics strips I will explore these great story concepts. Even the ones that I think are original might have some residue of stories I enjoyed as a lad so please forgive me.

Where does "P" come from

"P" or Probe is a cross between the robot from Lost in Space, Marvin from Hitchhikers and a little bit of Cylon from the new Battlestar (the whole brain upload thing). I was excited to create a character that can be adapted to different situations including getting blown to bits. Readers can tally up how often that happened by looking at the stamped number on "P" 's chest plate. P's interchangeable body parts also makes him fun to draw. In the masthead I added tank tracks just to keep him in frame. Wings were added to punctuate his duty as "Wing Man" in the night club scene with Flask. I can't wait to draw a few 1000 more versions!

Mothership has entered the colour dimension

Just updated the website with colour images including two new strips and the first ever Saturday strip revealing the transformed M.S. Canem. I was really happy with the way the colour turned out, so much so that my black and whites now feel dull. After completing the Saturday strip, I had to revamp the whole strip. Now I have a colour masthead which I used in the Blog.

Some people asked me why I named the ship the Canem. I wanted an ironic Latin that would hint it's fate. I settled for "Canem" when I should have used Canis, but I liked the sound of Canem better and it was part of the Latin phrase Cave Canem or Beware of Dog. In this case it should be called beware of THE dog. If There is anything I can point out about Mothership is it's increasing irregularities.

The Awakening

Ah yes, my first Blog and about time too. The Mothership comics strip is for anyone who like Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Gallactica or any other science fiction show/movie. Heck its even for anyone who works in an office and has to deal with co-workers. At the very least I hope it will add a breath of fresh air to the comic pages. Mothership has been released to the syndicates so hopefully it will grace the pages of a newspaper near you. Please light a candle to the gods of Kobol or at least checkout the website for Mothership.
